What’s the deal with lawns? How often do I have to water? Why does mine look so bad? All these questions and more will be answered during a very insightful presentation about organic gardening with Jamie Dekes. Dekes has been working in organic lawn care for over 20 years, focusing on soil health and using compost and bio-remedies to reduce weed pressure naturally. He has given presentations to the Cape Cod Master Gardeners, Cape Cod Landscapers Association, and Vineyard Conservation Society. His goal is to create sustainable results and healthier gardens for the betterment of Cape Cod. This program is free and no registration is required. Bird lovers enjoy this special series offered by Phil Kyle. Phil Kyle has dedicated his life to the study and public education of the natural world, especially birds. He was a past president of the Cape Cod Bird Club and wrote a weekly column about birds for the Cape Cod Times. Amazing Behavior of Common Birds: Saturday 2/21, 12:30-1:30. Whether distinguishing male from female with ultraviolet vision, singing to defend their yards, or courtship displays, the way they act is astounding once the secrets are revealed. Creating a Wildlife Friendly Backyard: Saturday 3/21, 12:30-1:30. Too much of Cape Cod’s land is being developed and is not protected… you can help wildlife by changing your backyard. Spring Migrants: Saturday 4/18, 12:30-1:30. Eighty percent of birds seen on Cape Cod are migrants. Which categories, their special physiology, and what spring migrants look like. Why don’t they stay in the tropics? Events include 10 minute Q&A session. No registration necessary.
