A heartfelt celebration of 1980s “alternative” music and the lost art of making a 90-minute mixtape, “Our Mixtapes, Ourselves – The Happy-Sad Story and Soundtrack of Generation X” playfully and poignantly explores why new wave, punk and post-punk music mattered so much to millions of Gen X teens back then — and why it matters even more to them 40+ years later. Part memoir, part cultural analysis, and part group therapy session, it’s a playlist-packed collection of essays and expert interviews that will make you want to break out your old English Beat and Elvis Costello records, dance the pogo in your kitchen, and hug your loved ones dearly – before it’s too late. This event is free and no registration is required. ![]() Join Lisa, our Children's Librarian, each Thursday for play time, fun stories, songs, and a craft. All ages are welcome. Perhaps there is some sort of secret homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers.” January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb. . . . Written with warmth and humor as a series of letters, this novel is a celebration of the written word in all its guises and of finding connection in the most surprising ways.
