Dennis loves Cape Cod!

Cape Cod History is here...

Dennis the Snowman has decided to learn more about the town he was named for, so he's browsing a copy of Nancy Thacher Reid's well known Dennis, Cape Cod: From Firstcomers to Newcomers 1639-1993. Reid's book is part of our popular Cape Cod Collection that Dennis is getting to know very well.

He also likes searching our digital newspaper archive of the Yarmouth Register and the Barnstable Patriot. Dennis was delighted to have found a photo of his cousin at the Mashpee Commons, which appeared in the Barnstable Patriot on 11/23/2000.

Ancestry update

Remote Access Ending as of Friday, December 31st

Dennis Public Library has been notified by the provider of Ancestry Library Edition that remote access will discontinue at the end of this month.

Remember that in-library access to Ancestry is available, and the Cape Cod Genealogical Society can help patrons with genealogical research. Please call the library to arrange an appointment with a CCGS volunteer.

Storywalk® at Old Fort Field

StoryWalk® at Old Fort Field

Dennis Public Library recently collaborated with the Dennis Conservation Land Trust to present Full of Fall, a StoryWalk®.

Full of Fall

With gorgeous photo illustrations, award-winning author April Pulley Sayre explores the transformation trees undergo in fall. The book takes readers through the leaves’ initial change from green to red, yellow, and orange, the shedding of the leaves, and the leaves crumbling as winter approaches. Extensive back matter explains the science behind this process to the youngest of budding scientists.

This book is suitable for all ages. The StoryWalk® will be exhibited for a month, until November 15th, along the trail at Old Fort Field (105 New Boston Rd., Dennis).

We love working with our community partners and hope you enjoy this great story while exploring the great outdoors!

Did you know?

The Dennis Public Library will be closed on Friday, June 18th, along with the majority of the town's buildings. We will reopen on Saturday for our usual hours.

It's been a while.

Since March 17, 2020 actually. We sure have missed welcoming patrons into our building. If you took advantage of our many services while the building was closed, we are grateful. Once the building is open again, our curbside pickup service will discontinue.

Thankfully, the trends are looking good. We are so happy to open our doors for your visits on Tuesday, June 15th. Our pre-COVID hours of operation will resume: Tuesday - Thursday: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please be mindful that we are following the Governor's advisory: People fully vaccinated against COVID-19 need not wear masks, while those who are not fully vaccinated are strongly encouraged to wear masks for their health and safety. See you soon!

New StoryWalk® at Johnny Kelly Park

Starting Saturday, April 17th

Please come read our bilingual story on the pathway at Johnny Kelley Park.

Ven a leer nuestra historia bilingüe en el Parque Johnny Kelley.

The Dennis Libraries are joining together to present a StoryWalk® for April school vacation. Starting on Saturday, April 17th, head over to Johnny Kelley Park to read our bilingual story (in both English and Spanish.) Its title is Waiting for the Biblioburro, written by Monica Brown, illustrated by John Parra, and translated by Adriana Domiquez. The book is based on real life librarian Luis Soriano Bohórquez, who is eagerly awaited by children in the rural areas of Columbia. He loads his two burros with books and travels around the country to spread literacy and culture. The StoryWalk® begins across from the playground. Follow the story panels along to the right, where they are affixed to the posts for the park’s Braille Trail. We hope readers of all ages enjoy the book.

This program is offered in partnership with the Ezra H. Baker Innovation School, an institution also dedicated to increasing literacy and sharing cultures. Funding was provided by The Educational Foundation for Dennis and Yarmouth, Inc. The StoryWalk® concept was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT, and developed with the help of Rachel Senechal of the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
